Charity Ambassador wins big again!

COMEDIAN Joe Lycett won more than £11,500 for a Tamworth charity on celebrity Deal or No Deal despite only having £10 in his box.

Charity manager Paula Da-Silva not only appeared on Saturday night’s show but also opened a box which incredibly had £1 in it.

At the start, Joe, who has already won more than £50,000 for the charity over the years on celebrity versions of TV’s Tipping Point and Catchphrase gameshows, told presenter Stephen Mulhern: “I’m so excited. I watched this show as a child with the other guy (Noel Edmonds) and I’m just very excited to be here.

“I am playing for the Tamworth wellbeing and cancer support centre. I’ve been an ambassador for them for a long time and they do incredible things for people in the worst times of their lives and actually Paula who runs the charity is here tonight as one of my box openers.”

Joe had box nine and his final three numbers were £10, £5,000 and £25,000. The banker’s offer was £7,899 but Joe said no deal.

His next box revealed £5,000, leaving the final offer as £11,560, which Joe accepted. His box was then revealed to only have £10 in it.

Stephen summarised: “What an end to an incredible game. You said from the start number five was a special box and you were absolutely right. It’s been an incredible game.”

Joe said: “I’m really chuffed with the amount for the charity. That’s an admirable number.”

Paula told the Herald: “When Joe asked me to be a part of the show, my instinct was to say no but, because of everything he does for the charity, I didn’t feel that it was fair to refuse and I’m so glad I did it.

“It was one of the most terrifying things I’ve ever done, but also one of the most incredible. The entire experience was just lovely.

“Everybody that works on the show looked after me so well, all of Joe’s friends and family were really supportive. They were all just an amazing group of people to spend the day and evening with.

“We had a watch party at Joe’s house to see it all unfold together and, again, everyone was so supportive.

“I think everybody felt under pressure to do well for the charity and for Joe. He is very well loved and respected, and for good reason. He is definitely one of life’s good guys.

“I am so grateful to him for many things, but to be a part of this experience is something I will always treasure.

“The money will help the charity immensely, but equally as important is that we have now been able to raise awareness of what we do to millions of people watching on primetime TV. No amount of money can buy that.”
